Choosing A-level subjects is not a decision you should take lightly. The A-level subjects you choose now have a huge impact on your future educational and career plans, namely the courses you can apply to at university (and which universities will consider you).

  • Can I change my A-levels once the school year has just already started?

This happens every year because students think they have chosen the right A-Level subjects, but when they start the course, they find that the subjects are really too difficult or the subjects aren’t what they imagined. Please note that, if you intend to change subjects at this period, please immediately notify the school so they can promptly respond.

  • Can I change my A-level even if I am one semester into the course?

On one hand, this isn’t an ideal time to change your courses; on the other hand, the earlier you decide to change, the better. 

Remember that if you decide to make a change around this time, you will have to put in a pretty heavy amount of work to keep up with the weeks/months you missed on the new select subject.

  • Can I change my A-level after one year of study?

This is the period when changing your subjects may cause various serious troubles. It’s recommended that students should not change their A-level subjects during this time, simply because there won’t be enough time for you to catch up with the large amount of knowledge that you have missed in the first year while SIMULTANEOUSLY studying the content of the second year. Not to mention the fact that you won’t have enough time to review your work for any chance of getting a good grade at the end of your A2-level year. 

However, there may be special exceptions, like studying certain A-level subjects to meet the entry requirements of a certain university, but you must be completely determined to keep up with the rest of the students.

  • Should I take a gap year to decide?

If you feel it’s too late to change A-level subjects, then there’s always the option to take a gay year to decide what you want to do next.
